Oscar Tregaskis-Jago

I'm Oscar Tregaskis-Jago, director and licensed builder at OTJ. I spent 11+ years training and working as a qualified carpenter before becoming a certified Passive House tradesperson, a qualification I've now held for 3+ years.

Somewhere along the way, building stopped being just a trade and became closer to an obsession — one where every tool has a place. On my sites that shows up everywhere: an organised site, tools cleaned and put back, materials protected. It's not fussiness. A tidy site is what a builder who's paying attention looks like, and that's the same attention that goes into every joint, junction and detail on your home.

That attention carries straight through into how I build. I work on architecturally designed homes across Tasmania, and I build them to perform — genuinely warmer in winter, cooler in summer, quieter, and cheaper to run than a standard build. People assume that comes with a premium price tag. It doesn't. High performance isn't an expensive upgrade I add on top — it's just the way I build, on every job, as standard.

I'm also the licensed builder, site manager and carpenter on every job I take on. One person, start to finish. That means when you call, you get the person actually running your build — not a call centre, and not a rotating cast of subcontractors passing the buck.
